Indeed. Small pieces of silver and gold...carry a gold/silver chain and pay for things with a link or two.

Keep plenty of 187 ML ("1/2 pint") bottles of cheap vodka and whiskey handy/stashed...plastic bags with a cup of rice in them and 16.9 oz. bottles of water...things like that. So when it gets really bad, you've got the new "coin of the realm" ready to use.

Bartering is always a good option. And a good reason to store extras of things that don’t take much room.

I think I’ve used the example in the past of sewing needles. They’re cheap, you can fit a lot of them inside a pill bottle, and when things get rough they can sew clothing or skin as needed.

Although, my favorite barter item is seeds. They’re among the few emergency supplies that can produce multiples of themselves :) I probably have enough squash and tomato seeds to plant half my township. Working on things like corn, legumes, sunflowers, and true potato seeds.
(I’m a professional plant breeder, so I’d be doing this no matter what was happening. Plants are my obsession.)
