As silly as it sounds, it’s not that bad an idea. I don’t know about other places, but around these parts the churches do not allow you to throw anything on their property because of the mess it leaves....no confetti, no rice, nothing.

At least the instant potato flakes would scatter fairly well and dissolve in the rain, maybe even feed some critters and birds.

The rice thing is a myth. No bird has ever died from rice expanding in their stomach.

But, even if a person believes the myth, it would still be easier to just use birdseed. I would suggest millet, because the pale color makes it look like rice in the photos, and it’s non-invasive if some of the seeds sprout. It’s also very inexpensive and easy to find.

Using potato flakes is just weird.

At least they weren’t throwing potato mashers.

Mashed potatoes by themselves are kind of boring.

I’m in favor of this. The restaurant we intended to have a lunch meeting at was closed on Monday’s, so we went to a handy nearby Waffle House. I had a plate that came with a Texas Cheesesteak melt with bacon and those awesome Waffle House hash browns. It was great!

Srednik and lady were pelted with uncooked rice on their joyous day.
