Salinas River is predicted to hit 28-feet at Salinas Bridge
Monterey County is warning residents that flooding along the Salinas River could impact travel between the Monterey Peninsula and the rest of the county. The worst case scenario of this impact is that both Highway 1 and Highway 68 are closed, turning the peninsula into an island.
River-level predictions created by NOAA and NWS show that the Salinas River is expected to crest at 27.7-feet where it flows under Highway 68 near Spreckels. The county has said that at 28-feet the river will impact travel, and either forcing the county to close the bridge or flooding along the highway.
Advertisement As the Salinas River continues to flow to the Monterey Bay, it could also flood Blonco Road, west of Salinas, and Highway 1, north of Marina. The last time this happened was in 1995.
"The projections now include a probable inundation of roadways between the Monterey Peninsula and the rest of the County to include the city of Salinas through Blanco Road and Highway 68," the county said in a press release.
The Salinas River is expected crest at Spreckels/Highway 68 Monday morning. You can follow the river flow, timing and see predictions for certain water levels at https://www.cnrfc.noaa.gov/graphicalRVF.php?id=SPRC1
Sunday morning, Highway 1 was closed near Watsonville due to flooding. Given the location of the flooding, commuters were still able to take Highway 156 to Highway 101. This closure does not affect if the peninsula becomes an island or not, only the possible flooding of Highway 1 and Highway 68 near Marina and Spreckles respectively.
People pay extra to live on islands.
Bizarre. The land bridge from Monterey to the “mainland” is over 100 feet about sea level.
This seems a larger concern: Orovill, Don Pedro, San Luis, Sonoma, Cachuma and other dams seem near max capacity now, and the meltoff this Spring will be the largest ever.
Time to get a Musk “Boring Company” tunnel to bring water from California to Arizona.
h, don’t worry about that. The state is making sure all that water goes back to the ocean, so the drought doesn’t end.
We’re any spotted newts injured?
Gotta save the minnows.
No Worries! Monterey will declare itself the first transgender island, and all will be well. Monterey-a will receive the blessings of Gaia, AlGore, Brucie Jenner, and all the wackos who cannot answer the question What Is A Woman.
Perhaps it’s just the will of Allah.
These Californers need to get with the program.
Monterey County is a leftist hell hole. Nice country, but a hell hole. It consist of illegal alien house servants and the wealthy leftist.
