Statistics that show 4.5% of Black men will commit murder during their own lifetime, also show that 95.5% WILL NOT.
Treating every black guy as if they are a murderer is simultaneously a logical survival strategy, AND a cruel injustice against the non-murdering 95.5%. This creates an ethical dilemma, pitting self preservation against making choices based on racist assumptions. Based on the data, this is a much more pressing problem for the Black community than the White one.
Anyone who believes Black Lives Matter, ought to be focused on protecting black lives from murderers, by removing the murderers from society. Perversely, the BLM movement seeks to put black lives at greater risk by reducing police presence, treating normal legal standards as racist, and releasing dangerous criminals to prey on the public. The data makes it obvious that deaths at the hands of police are minimal compared to murders by non-police. Yet BLM focuses it’s propaganda and “protests” as if the opposite were the case. The “media” is complicit in a virtual holocaust of black lives by allowing this nonsense to stand.
This is nutty speculation, but I wonder whether incarcerating offenders has a straight-line effect, or if those who are not murdered because their potential murderers are incarcerated, are the exact sort most likely to commit murder themselves. (I.e., does the high rate of murder among the black male demographic tend to thin the pool of murderers, whereas innocent victims saved are a fairly minor portion.) I guess incarcerating enough over time would put a dent in the cycle.
Self preservation wins. The "Race Card" is overcharged and I no longer accept it.
It’s not that one would think all blacks are potential murderers. That is racist. For myself I have several black neighbors that I have no concerns about. I work with lots of black people and I don’t suspect a single one of them of murder.
It is a concern that the prevalent black culture might be toned down a bit. Rap music, dark tinted windows, hoodies with the hoods up, flash mobs, those kinds of things. I suppose that’s racist too but still it is worth looking at.
you are assuming the 95.5% don’t commit violence or attempt murder but don’t actually kill someone, just injure them
by the doj crime stats that would be a bad assumption on your part.
