I guess I just don’t get the fried chicken and watermelon black stereotype. I grew up in NW IL, eating fried chicken regularly. I also grew up less than a half hour from sandy soil Mississippi River flood plain; where melon stands were abundant during the summer. Watermelon was devoured at our house almost daily during late july, august, and early september.
I don’t get it either. When I was a small child my grand parents would do fried chicken, hamburgers, watermelon and homemade ice cream I would take turns cranking the maker.
