If the Ukrainians were smart they wouldn’t pay for these until they were destroyed by Russian fire. Aerial photography is far more DETAILED now than it was in WW2 when these were valuable assets. Just sayin’.
Oh…. Wait a minute. That’s right, Ukraine isn’t paying for these. The American taxpayers are likely paying.
These decoys are also more detailed.
Some of what we have seen of Russian Orlan drone video is pretty poor. Those were the standard Russian artillery spotter drones at the start of the war.
And video from drones generally is marginal at a distance. If used for artillery spotting they may be hard pressed to distinguish a dummy at a kilometer or more.
As for satellites - it depends on the satellite, and the system behind it. We have no idea what military satellites and the military intelligence guys who process imagery are capable of.
They are working in this war.
