It started when the GWB administration used multi-year waterboarding torture to force confessions out of Gitmo prisoners who could not possibly have been responsible for 911. (Only a major intel agency could have pulled off the massive op.)
I never understood how Americans, who had grown up thinking ourselves the "White hats," could ever tolerate this.

GWB was a great disappointment to me. He was just a slider. I always remember his answer when asked why he never vetoed anything. “ Didn’t need to since we negotiated it all.” Yup, wouldn’t be prudent to take a stand on much of anything, like oh, say, a 20 year war?
