NASCAR superstar Chase Elliott had successful surgery for an unspecified injury to his left leg Friday night, hours after a snowboarding accident in Colorado. He will miss this weekend’s NASCAR race at Las Vegas.
Team owner Rick Hendrick told The Associated Press that Elliott was “just out of surgery” and “it went well.” Hendrick gave no additional details about Elliott’s condition or the accident.
Hendrick is NASCAR's winningest car owner and Elliott is NASCAR’s most popular driver.
Josh Berry will drive the No. 9 Chevrolet on Sunday in place of Elliott.
Elliott would need a waiver from NASCAR to be eligible for this year’s playoffs because he’s missing a race. NASCAR has granted waivers to drivers for a variety of medical and non-medical reasons.

Later reports say broken leg. I would give him a pass on this one.
There is still NASCAR????.../s/
Regularly driving door to door at 200MPH+ and a skiing accident takes him out. Go figure!
At around the half way point, his replacement Josh Berry is 2 laps down.
tree
Elliott was one of my favorite drivers when I quit watching NASCAR when they went all woke
I didn’t know nascar was still around. Seriously.
Same with me....
tree = Unforgiving.
#1 skiing/snowboarding rule - “Whatever it takes - don’t hit the tree!”
“”Elliott was one of my favorite drivers when I quit watching NASCAR when they went all woke””
MEGA DITTOS!
There are wonderful pictures and videos of a very, very young Chase Elliot in the pit area while his father Bill Elliot was racing in Nascar. I was very glad when he became part of the Hendrick stable of drivers. Give a very talented driver, who is also willing to put in the work, give him great equipment, and you never know how great it will be.
One more fantastic memory before we quit watching NASCAR. Michele Obama appeared before a big Nascar race promoting something ‘for the children.’ The announcer first mentioned the organization, and the crowd started clapping and cheering. As soon as they heard the word Obama, most of the crowd booed LOUDLY. The look on Mrs Obama’s face was priceless, and I will never forget it. Needless to say she never attended another race.
He was replaced by Josh Barry, who did fine. Josh Berry is a Xfinity driver for JR Motorsports, owned by Dale, JR.
I would far rather continue to attend the many local tracks just as we did for years as a family when my kids were growing up.
Having attended annually at the Brooklyn MI. Event for several years, but no more. I was done with Nascar when Nascar made it clear they no longer cared about those who supported them for generations.
Local short tracks are the bread and butter of Nascar origins. So long Nascar! You won’t be missed.
I didn’t hit the tree.
The tree and gravity ganged up me and 3 rotator cuff surgeriesater and a few years, I’m good as new...
I hit a boulder skiing once.
11 days in the hospital and months on crutches/cane...then another operation 18 months later to remove the screws/device that reattached the ball of the femur to the rest of the femur...
I mowed lawns for two summers to help regain my walking ability.
I am gratefully healthy now...
