I found out, a while ago, when my brother was getting treated at a local hospital, that a lot of the cost was for insurance, where the insurance was supposed to cover malpractice and frivolous lawsuits.
Thus, administering a $2 pill to a patient might end up costing $100 or more, to cover the cost of nurses and doctors and other hospital staff that might have been involved with a patient getting the pill.
Take away the insurance costs, and treatments might end up being half the price and in some cases, very little.
March of 2021 I was knocked off of my Harley and dragged 90 feet by a 70 year-old meth head. Four broken ribs and a punctured lung. Spent 4 days in the hospital. Bill was just over 50k. I had insurance, including un and under insured coverage and he had insurance. The hospital filed with Medicare which paid $7250. My balance with the hospital is zero and I just got a check for 30k from his insurance. I had to pay $7250 to Medicare.
