Does public school grounds also include inside the school? I thought ccw inside a school is prohibited by federal law.

From the U.S. Constitution, Article 1, Section 8, defining the legislative jurisdiction of the Congress:

To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards, and other needful Buildings;

If you mean the Gun-Free School Zones Act (bleh), it exempts licensed carry when in the state the license was issued.

The OP is correct. For example, even in Free Florida there is a law that firearms are not allowed within 1000 feet of a school! However, the law does NOT apply to concealed weapon permit holders. So going thru the process and paying for a permit is still the smartest thing to do. Avoid these add but significant traps.
