The “Indian” actor Iron Eyes Cody was actually an Italian-American guy named Espera Oscar de Corti. So it would seem to me that all the rights to the ad should go to an Italian-American group.
Maybe give it to these guys. It would only be fair.

Tigers, Lions and Elephants and all sorts of wacky creatures used to run around America. The America Europeans found was hardly an untouched wilderness when the Europeans found it. Indians weren’t exactly Captain Planet in their day. Ironically if it WAS an untouched wilderness this weakens the idea that Europeans stole America since that would mean the indians only inhabited a very small portion.

What was missed is that outside every Indian reservation I’ve ever seen is a stream of trash, mostly empty alcohol containers. I’ve always figured a update of the ad showing the road at a reservation would be highly appropriate.
