English speakers originally proposed CUT (for "coordinated universal time"), while French speakers proposed TUC (for "temps universel coordonné"). The compromise that emerged was UTC,[7] which conforms to the pattern for the abbreviations of the variants of Universal Time (UT0, UT1, UT2, UT1R, etc.).
Well then, I stand corrected! Thanks. That kinda makes more sense. I was going off of ancient, and probably damaged brain cells.
To further muddy the waters, IIRC, ff you listen to the time on shortwave, I'm think it says something like, At the tone the time will be XXX "coordinated universal time". I'd have to pull out my HAM rig to verify that though. Then again, i could be referencing damaged brain cells again. LOL.
