The CIA put four bottles of "vintage wine" and a basket containing wine and cognac given by undisclosed foreign parties to "official use," while destroying other items like wristwatches given as gifts to agency employees.
Because the CIA is a clandestine intelligence service, many of the details about gifts given to CIA employees from foreign dignitaries and sources are kept secret. But a foreign gift disclosure document released by the State Department Thursday shows gifts many CIA employees received were destroyed, including watches ranging in value from $500 to $10,000.
Gift-giving is a major part of foreign relations, a sign of respect and friendship between nations. The White House, State Department, embassies and various other government offices display gifts from foreign heads of state, and there are vast government storerooms housing other items.
But the U.S. government has strict rules about what officials can do with the gifts to avoid apparent or actual bribery from foreign governments. Federal employees are not allowed to accept gifts over a certain value unless "refusal of the gift would cause offense or embarrassment or would otherwise adversely affect the foreign relations of the United States," according to U.S. law. Such a gift, assuming it is "tangible," may be accepted and must be handed over to become property of the U.S. government.
Those accepted gifts must be disclosed, and the State Department released a list of gifts from foreign officials earlier this week.

Of course they are. The bitches are a law unto themselves, and they press it to the hilt. Don’t for a MINUTE believe that they don’t keep (or sell for personal profit) some of those gifts. Don’t for a minute believe that they don’t engage in a wide variety of corrupt enterprises — including drug and gun running and human trafficking — for personal profit.
FBI, CIA, DOJ, DHS delenda est.
More of our government lunacy. Give them to fighter pilots, give them to the local watch dealer and return the proceeds of the sale to the US treasury. Those were probably some amazing wrist watches if they were given by a foreign dignitary is a gift. But no, our idiots know it’s best to crush them with a steamroller or something.
Exactly
I’ve loosely know an old guy..like 81, my parents age. He even went to school with them. He’s great and I like him a lot, he still works every day.
He has one of the last few thrift stores/milItary surplus stores left in the South End of Louisville going into Fort Knox Ky. I guess there used to be a dozen between there and Muldraugh area.
I asked him why and he said literally within days of Biden getting elected all the surplus and used goods sold or auctioned from Ft Knox was shut down.
He said nearly everyone but him went out of business within a year.
‘If Im Lyin I’m dyin’
This is a joke given what the current POTUS has likely done in his career.
The lower ranks got greedy and didn’t give tribute to their bosses. Now the boss is pissed.
Haha! I like that explanation.
If the police aren’t your friend, just think what these bastards are.
Or....the CIA thought the watches may have trackers or listening devices installed?
Who knows what these corrupt thugs do with gifts and money. But the watches and gifts should be put up for auction and go back into general treasury. But we can’t count on any ethical or logical behavior here.
So much for the employees being unknown working at the CIA clandestine intelligence service.
*Transparency*
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
They don’t necessarily give the recipient’s name but it looks like they give the donor’s name....ok, blows their cover.
I’ll admit I don’t know further details, so maybe the agent winds up working stateside for the rest of his or her career anyway.
Now, do agents working for an embassy AND CIA — do they collect two salaries? If working for a private company and CIA - again, two salaries?
I don’t buy that. They could easily take some nice Rolex and sell it at a local dealer, and never revealed that they are the CIA. It’s just wasteful, and part of that retarded Colonel Flagg mentality from MASH.
While they play their sorority games, 911 happen, the breakup of the Soviet Union happened, the shoe bomber happened, the Boston bomber happened, the collapse of Afghanistan happened. They sat by silently while Hillary and Biden were internationally taking bribes, and they let Trump be falsely accused is a Russian spy.
But hell, don’t be a wristwatch anywhere around them. They take that crap serious. Morons. Northern Virginia Langley morons
Less of a bribery/gift thing and more of a “this thing is bugged” thing?? No gifts from Huawei or TikTok!!
After the Church Committee revelations back in the 1980s the CIA “split”.
Part of it became the “official” CIA. Lots of lawyers were hired to make sure they “played by the rules”. They quickly became the joke you described.
The rest of the agency went another way. Contractors and subcontractors were hired to do the dirty work—far away from lawyers and FOIA and Congressional investigators.
Foreign intelligence services were used as well to spy on Americans and swap data as needed.
The “official” CIA workers can truthfully say they don’t know anything about the bad stuff.

A peculiar story!
