Those “studies” always assume “meat eaters” ALSO eat a ton of sugar and flour!

Correlation doesn’t always equal causation as the saying goes. I could see many confounding variables in a study like this. I suspect many non-vegetarians consume much more in the way of processed foods than vegetarians, and I think many of the things added to those foods are responsible for causing health problems for example. Most of the difference in mortality was do to more cardiovascular problems in meat eaters, probably because of the choline content of certain animal proteins (red meat in particular), and choline can metabolize into TMOA which causes heart disease. Just avoiding red meat might wipe out the 12% mortality advantage difference in vegetarians. Non-vegetarians are also likely consuming more peroxidized fats from fried foods than vegetarians, lots of potentially confounding factors that probably weren’t taken into account in this study. Not to mention this study was financed by Seventh Day Adventist who may be biased in favor of coming to this conclusion.
