Anyone have suggestions for the best streaming service?
Me

Posted on 02/26/2023 8:02:10 AM PST by V_TWIN

Cut the cord and kicked directv to the curb last year and did my research for a streaming service.

After comparing plans, prices and content I settled on fubotv.

While I was happy for a while fubo just forced a regional sports network (RSN) package on my plan that I can't opt out of and used it as an excuse to jack up my monthly fee by $30......that's the end of fubotv as soon as the next billing cycle is up.

I'm leaning towards youtube tv.....anyone have thoughts or suggestions?

Buy an Amazon Fire Stick and start slowly. It has loads of free content via Amazone FreeVee and other apps, with frequent offers to try paid services for free. Then figure out what you want to watch and look for that content. When necessary, pay for it. When you have exhausted the offerings from a pay service, move on to another.

that’s about what we pay for cable- $230 or so- they sure went up fast- and usually there isn’t much on worth watching- I do enjoy turner classic movies though- and racing shows- a few of the gold shows and animal shows too-

“Id like to see the answers too as I looked into it but it seemed we’d pay either close to what we were with cable”

I called that one long ago when there was all this hype that dropping cable and going a la carte was going to save all this money. Of course it all depends upon one’s preferences but if you desire lots of sports channels you will pay quite a bit because they know the demand is high for it.

I would say we are probably paying about as much but have much more movie content then before when we had cable. So it’s better but not necessarily much cheaper. We have Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu. If you can stand commercials there is a lot of free content at Pluto.

I have ROKU on my 82” Samsung QLED 4 HD TV, and like it.

We dont really care for movies- modern ones anyways- most are usually too filthy and woke to watch- sports- not so much- mostly racing which we get with ‘free’ espn channels and a couple other channels that carry stuff like motorcycle and F-1 racing-

i do liek the menu for cable- snd recording and seeing number of who’s calling on the TV- but that isn’t worth an extra $70 or so a year to us - so I’ll probably look into youtube tv, or something-

May I go a bit further and ask

What features of a TV do I need?

My old TV is ready to die and I will probably be needing a new one.

Do I need WiFi? OLED, QLED, UHD? 4K? It’s all so confusing...

Not if it doesn’t have a receiver in it. Few do these days.

Sling offers best channel packages and best bang for buck - IMHO.

I will probably be needing a new one.

Consider buying a ROKU TV.

Agree, Firestick is fine but the Amazon content is pretty stale to me. I get on fine without it and use Youtube and some of the free streaming stuff. Freevee seems to have a reasonable amount of advertisement and good selection so far. I cant say much about many others since I have not tested them much. Freevee and yousetube seem to have understood that if the countdown timer is less than a minute or so I will sit and endure the commercias, also if the time between commercials allows for at least one good plot line before interruption. Otherwise I will switch off. Three to five minute commercials ever three to five minutes or less is absurd and intolerable..

I want the best quality picture from a streaming device, especially with 4K. Nvidia Shield is expensive, but it absolutely gives me the sharpest, best picture. Next is the Smart Service on my LG TV, with the Roku Ultra close behind and the Amazon Fire Cube last. Of all three, I like the Roku interface the best, although that’s a matter of personal preference. For whatever reason, the LG TV’s Smart Service does not get all of the streaming services the Roku and Nvidia does.

There is a lot of good streaming channels out there for free. You can spend a small amount of money for subscriptions. I tend to jump around, see something I want to watch from a pay channel, watch it, drop it and go to something else.

Then that is just like cable, you’re paying for a group of channels. Now you can get a digital antenna and get about 45 channels depending on where you are.

Red China loves that we spend copious amounts of time watching stupid shows & videos instead of reading, becoming more proficient at a new skill, or volunteering spare time at local schools to help American kids improve their math, science and literacy skills.

There is too much “fun crap” to distract and absorb our time being pushed out on many platforms, just the way China likes it.

I watch Bannon’s War Room, Tucker Carlson, and listen to news/talk radio while I’m working. I also read FR.

I don’t crave viewing the latest TV series, newest movies, old songs, cat videos, sports scores, TT challenges, online gaming, or gambling apps.

Most of us are helping China. China says ‘Thank You.’ Period.

I don’t watch TV but my wife does so we pay for Hulu, Paramount+ and PBS. I only listen to music so I pay for Spotify and Amazon Prime Music.

It is “expensive” but still much less than what we paid for cable.

You could Jailbreak a Fire Stick and watch whatever you want, whenever, provided you have an internet connection.

Just be sure to run a VPN. While not illegal to jailbreak a Fire Stick, it IS illegal to use it that way.
