Kinda what drives me nuts when people talk about saving Ukrainian democracy, they actually had an insurrection in 2014. Arranged by the west. Issue was Ukraine picking a Russian trade deal over an EU one. I think the west was also looking for revenge because Russia saved Assad in Syria. Give the western warmongers credit though, it worked. Then Minsk 1 and 2, Donbas, etc. Lots of folks can’t get past Putin bad though.

I think that the “west” stupidly wanted an immediate crackdown in the Donbass, but the election of Trump rained on that parade. Their hubris in assessing Russian power is basically omnipresent. Using the Minsk accords as a canard was just Plan B.
