I tried to explain that I have no grudge against cyclists, was a very active cyclist myself when younger . . . and certainly some drivers are idiots and even criminal. But the wrong is not all on one side.
As for "likely formed long ago" - tu quoque. The last time I encountered dangerous cyclists in significant numbers was near the end of December 2022. I was westbound on a narrow road, Mt. Paran, when I met 10-12 younger male cyclists occupying the entire eastbound lane, including one or two riding along the center line. Extremely dangerous as this is a busy road as well as an old "drover road" that follows a ridge, with very tight curves and short sight lines, and a very high crown. Traffic was backed up for at least half a mile behind them, they were apparently oblivious and did not take single file or pull over to allow traffic to clear. Fortunately nobody gunned it around them, because they could have hit oncoming traffic (including me).
I don't understand their attitude - they seem completely unaware of others, even though it could directly affect their safety.
I would not and have not denied that there are idiots on bicycles any more than I would deny that there are idiots driving cars. Somehow when one encounters idiots driving like maniacs no one makes a judgement about every other person who is a driver.
Yet, when I read the many posts from people who despise cyclists... they tend to paint every cyclist with the same brush. It has been long enough that I cannot even remember a cyclist who held me up for a few seconds on the road or was riding like an idiot. This is likely because there are very few young cyclists on the road in our area.
