This is a reminder of why civilization is changing, we are affected because now we can see the normal and the routine and it seems magnified and brutal and as though we should do something about it.
Frequently I see a horrible story about a person doing something terrible that indicates the collapse of humanity and then I check where, and it is in some distant state or on the other side of the world and I think good gosh, we fill our days with these stories that in the past we would never have heard about.
Love your post. You’re right on the money. Some kid on the other side of the world catches chicken pox and it’s major news event. The do gooders with their cellphones and laptops all want to start a GoFundMe page for the family. Geez. I get really PO’d when I read some Earth-shattering news and finally get to the part where the “breaking news” happened a month ago somewhere in the Sahara desert.
Yeah, nobody ever insta-tracked nationwide how many bar or gang gunfights ended up killing one or more and injuring others. But now it’s a big political war.
OTOH, it IS pretty cool that now we have eagle cams and volcano cams and so on, for people interested.
