The guitar was created for Joe Pass and nobody else can really play it.

Wes was an original, that’s for sure. A master of octaves and smooth as glass.

The list of great players is a long one. Plenty of styles for everyone to admire.

Virtuosity and technique are fun to watch but the ability to play in ways that evoke an emotional response and pure enjoyment of a great song is what matters most IMO. That’s the true nature of artistry.

Campbell was a gifted player. Raw, native talent. Very few players have the innate ability he had. He made it look so easy. The mark of a master at his craft.

Don’t forget NHØP, on bass.

Rick Beato did a great piece on him.

Knopfler is another one who makes it look so easy as well.

Love playing fretless electric but usually switch to fretted to sing. Current gig is low pressure and mostly mellow so the slight delay doesn’t ruin the show and I am not the main singer. Music is magic for those who play and those who listen.

Pass and Clark recorded an album together. It’s quite good with some impossibly phenomenal guitar playing.

Listening to Pass and Peterson trade 4’s is one of the great pleasures made possible by Western Civilization to modern people.

Agreed.

Ditto. And people should not overlook a score of current fingerpicking masters, who are still alive. Chet’s best friend and song scorer— John Knowles for example-

Expressive is a good description. Byrd had a relaxed and engaging style of playing. You could tell he loved the songs he played.
