You are wholly ignorant about why he had the rapprochements with China AND Russia: It was to play one off the other; a carrot and stick approach, especially with China. Nixon was a committed anti-communist, and he believed that having a division between the two major communist nations would serve the interests of the Unites States. And he was right.

You are wholly ignorant about why he had the rapprochements with China AND Russia: It was to play one off the other; I think you are ignorant. China and the USSR started clashing in the 50s, long before Nixon was president. China resented Soviet ties to India. China was scandalized when Khrushchev denounced Stalin. The Sino-Soviet split became formalized in 1961, when the PRC denounced Soviet communism and said they were traitors. Was Nixon president in 1961? Please tell me, one useful thing that came out of Nixon's pandering to China? Nixon started the processing of making the U.S. dependent on China, sending U.S. factories and jobs to China, and allowing them to steal all U.S. military technology. No traitor could have done a better job. Nixon was a committed anti-communist,
In the 40s and 50s he was, not in the 70s.
