Former President Nixon Predicts Modern Day Russia and Its Imperialist Behaviors towards Europe in 1994.
Nixon didn’t make a difference on his own. China started to recover from communist poverty only when Mao died, and after the power struggles of the successors ended with the faction of Deng Xiao Ping taking over.
You can date modern Chinese economic history from about 1978.
You sound very young.
Did China and Russia clash in the 1950s? Yes! They also cooperated (see: Korean War). They also had squabbles in the 1960s. And that is precisely why Nixon did what he did: Play the two major communist nations against each other to encourage a widening of a divide. Because Nixon recognized that if the two major communist nations ever seriously joined hands it would be disastrous for the world.
We had virtually no trade with China until 1979 (five years after Nixon left office), when the feckless Jimmy Carter normalized relations with Communist China. Even after that, the trade was minimal. That all changed with Bill Clinton and the admission of Communist China into the WTO.
Nixon was a committed anti-communist in the 1970s, and remained one until the day he died.
The only country China had good relations with before Nixon was Albania.
“Don’t forget his butt buddy GHWB, who was the best friend the ChiComs ever had.”
No, Jao Xiden is the best friend the ChiComs ever had.

Biden is just staying on the path.
“The only country China had good relations with before Nixon was Albania.”
You forgot North Korea.
Actually North Korea then was still very much in the Soviet Camp, even though they could best be described as “neutral” between the Soviets and ChiComs. But the Albanians thought the Soviets were “revisionists”, and not real Communists.

But, you are right about GHWB. He developed some close ties with China.
All to rehabilitate his tarnished Watergate image, and lack of a statesman like reputation.
Nixon brilliance? No thanks.
Nixon's visit to Communist China came before Watergate. The Communists took control of Indochina after Nixon left office and it didn't become a powerhouse of manufacturing and export until around the time of Bush 41.
“Actually North Korea then was still very much in the Soviet Camp, even though they could best be described as “neutral” between the Soviets and ChiComs.”
I disagree; if anything, the Norks played a balancing act: Russia for hardware and China for manpower (at least during the Korean War), and later, for trade (China is North Korea’s largest trading partner).
” The Communists took control of Indochina after Nixon left office and it didn’t become a powerhouse of manufacturing and export until around the time of Bush 41.”
I’d say it really became the powerhouse it is under Clinton.
But Bush 41 certainly set the stage for it.
When are you set to graduate from 7th grade? I know inhaling the fumes from all that glue you used building your plastic model boats has set you back a couple decades; but, don’t give up!
Nixon's second visit in early 1972, and meeting with the pivotal Premier Zhou Enlai in addition to Mao Zedong for a PR success on policy.
Four months later the Watergate scandal erupted, and by 1973 Nixon fell back on his PR successes to rehabilitate his reputation while never achieving the goal of the Visits to Communist china, which was to secure an agreement that China would no longer provide arms and all military supplies to North Vietnam.
Nixon got nothing but PR, and Communist China got access to the World and it's Money.

Put down the glue, son; and step away from it.
“Nixon’s first visit to Communist China in mid 1971...”
Wrong, son; Nixon first went to China in 1972.
“Nixon’s second visit in early 1972...”
Wrong again, son; Nixon’s FIRST visit to China was in early 1972 (specifically, February, 1972).
There is an old legal saying: Falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus. In other words, false in one thing, false in everything. Thus, EVERYTHING you say is called into question. You see, saying Nixon’s first trip to China was in 1971 could have been a typo; but when you doubled down on it by saying he had a SECOND trip to China in early 1972 clearly shows the 1971 reference was no typo: It was your ignorance.
Yes, I remember he went to Russia in 1994. As I recall he had some great conversations with some of the new political leaders.
