An incredible video out of China shows a man swinging a machete at civilians and a group of brave men who worked together as a team to disarm him.
A couple of men used something called a Sasumata Pole, which encircles the man like a metallic hand and controls him.

They were a bit edgy for a split second, but pulled themselves together.

Why do the men have such big apparatuses on them to use?

One of my coworkers was in Japan and saw police do this with a guy who was trying to stab people with a knife.

I think those were the same dudes who went after lockdown violators in China.

Funny even in China you can still legally use self-defenses. Here not so much.
The susumata has been around since the days of the samurai but is still used today as a weapon of self-defense.
There were samurai in China?

Very thought-provoking video. No tasing needed, no guns needed. What made it work was the citizens protecting everyone from this guy while detaining him non-violently until the police arrived. By then the guy was wearing down the police were able to subdue and cuff him.
I think they had been instructed and drilled on how to do this. Their teamwork was pretty amazing.

Men in white coats. What are the poles used for other than corralling machete wielding weirdos?

Susumata appears to be a Japanese word. I take from that that these things are a borrowed concept from Japan.

In my little rural burg, the only question would be “what caliber?”
He would be out of action in a lot less time.
