I was a double major in philosophy and history. Junior year I was reading 300 to 600 pages a day. Tough, but I pushed through it. Didn’t make a dime of difference in my life, but it was an interesting time.
300 to 600 pages a day. That is amazing. I was never that fortunate to take courses like that. I did take a summer school course once and it required us to read just about all day every day. It was wonderful.
Was it Woody Allen who said something like “I took a speed reading course and read War and Peace in an hour. It was about Russia.”
“emotionally”? What “emotional” preparation does anybody need to get to work? You need money. There’s your precious emotions. Miss a meal or two and you’ll find you are ready to start working and getting paid.
Agreed—those are the hours they claim to study.
My wife years ago ended up getting to work later in the morning after years of working there.
Some other head guy saw her coming in at 9:30 am or whatever and stopped her and started telling her she needed to get in on time.
Her boss heard the guy and stepped out into the hallway.
“Excuse me - don’t tell her what time she needs to be here. You know nothing. When everyone else has gone at 5 pm she is the only one still here and will work as late as we need her to in order to get something out at the end of the day. If I ever here you talking to her again.....”
That’s very rare I’ve never seen that happen.
Bob Denver also had a radio show in Princeton WV before his death.
Zoomers are fixated on their mental health. They require therapists, safe spaces, prescription drugs and conformity. It’s the generation that put Suicide Ideation on the map. They can’t live with a roommate because of PTSD, anxiety and autism.
A lot of older professors that planned to never retire and starting to retire.
What these people need is a swift kick in the @ss.
Radio....
Guess we have to say “terrestrial radio” now and explain ourselves. Until recently we had to do that with “vinyl LP” until a retro fad started up.
I will tell young people what a printed book is and help them decipher the black symbols on the pages that baffle them.
Magazine cartoon of a kid getting a present: “Thanks for the book, grandpa. Where do I plug it in?”
Well, the higher-ups would work late, but she was a secretary for a legal group in a large company. She was the only secretary that would stay late. Finish things up with the lawyers and then run over to FedEx by 7:30pm or whenever it was.
A couple of times she had to do a couple of all-nighters.
all-nighters
That has many meanings
Well - she said she had to get big reports out by the deadline - that’s what she told me anyway!
Wink wink
