Democrats in the Rhode Island General Assembly have introduced legislation that, if passed, would grant localities the ability to give non-U.S. citizens the right to vote in municipal elections. The measure marks the latest attempt by leftists to give foreigners and, in this case, even illegal immigrants the opportunity to influence the U.S. electoral process.
Under the new bill (H 5461), cities and towns would be permitted to “allow all residents of the municipality to vote in municipal elections for municipal officeholders regardless of the immigration status of the residents.”
The measure also stipulates that the locality’s board of canvassers is required to coordinate with Rhode Island’s secretary of state and board of elections to “develop the forms and instructions to implement the provisions” of the new law, “as well as any rules and regulations necessary to ensure that any ballot for municipal officeholders only is kept separate and apart from ballots distributed to [citizen] voters … and counted separately for transmission to the board of elections.”
The legislation does not specify what constitutes proof of residency.
According to the Rhode Island Constitution, the only “persons entitled to vote” are U.S. citizens 18 and older who have lived in their town and the state for 30 days or more “preceding the time of voting as provided by law,” and are registered to vote at least 30 days before Election Day. Despite the specific requirements laid out in the document, Democrat Rep. Enrique Sanchez, one of the bill’s sponsors, doesn’t “think it would be necessary to amend the state’s constitution in order to allow non-citizens to vote,” as The Providence Journal reported.
He admitted there are “some neighborhoods” with such large immigrant populations that he claimed “these whole neighborhoods have less of a voice because many people can’t vote.” Under the lax policies of the Biden administration, fiscal year 2022 saw a staggering 2.4 million apprehensions of illegal aliens crossing the country’s southern border — the most in history. Even Democrat-led locales like New York that love to posture themselves as “sanctuary cities” for illegal border-crossers are begging for relief from the deluge of arriving migrants, and the corresponding drain on limited public resources.
Sanchez further confirmed to the Journal that, if the bill becomes law and a town adopts an ordinance allowing noncitizen voting, it would mean not only illegal aliens but also individuals such as international students attending a Rhode Island university within said jurisdiction would be permitted to vote in that locality’s municipal elections.
The push by Sanchez and his allies to open up the state’s local election systems to illegal immigrants is hardly exclusive to Rhode Island. In blue states across the country, Democrat-controlled localities have passed or are considering resolutions permitting noncitizen voting in certain municipal elections, with San Francisco, New York City, and Washington, D.C. among the most notable.
When the woke commies sitting on RI’s highest court ignores it. Crap like that happens all the time in PA.
Why not?
After all, many millions have been voting in federal elections since 2020 and no one seems to mind...
There will be, at a minimum, 25,000,000 MIVs voting in 2024...
The Moochelle Obama-Stacy Adams ticket will easily get 115-to-120 million votes...
Who is going to stop them?
Certainly not the impotent GOP...
What the hell is Bill’s last name? The dirtbag could use a history lesson.
USA Women citizens got thE right to vote in 1920.
Non citizens can`t vote.
So... with mail-in, all 8 billion people on the planet-earth could get a ballot and vote in US elections.
“They can’t vote legally in them, but it gives the left a pool of voters they can include in their election fraud...”
That was available before as has been demonstrated. And it is up the federal elections committee and the law enforcement to make sure the laws are upheld and followed. What they do in their own state doesn’t mean anything to me. There is no law that says immigrants can’t vote. That’s state law and a number of them are already allowing it.
I can’t make the government adhere to the law. I can only identify what the laws are. And if they do get caught voting, that there is a penalty. And to be honest, if one of the illegal votes makes it to count at the federal level, then there should be a penalty to the state that violates the law whether intentional or not. But the federal law doesn’t get into states rights and shouldn’t.

Democrats are noncitizens they want more of their own hate America first cult.
I should be allowed to vote in DC. My federal tax dollars are going to pay its budget.
China doesn’t already???
My problem with this is those “only local” elections take place at the same time as county, state and national elections and they often put all on a single ballot.
In other words, illegals go to vote on election day and wind up with the same ballot you get.
And they count all of them.
When majority citizens of a given locality become minority voters to non-citizens under this proposed Democratic law, it's a violation of both the state constitution and the federal Constitution's guarantee of a republican form of government for each state imo.
"Article IV, Section 4 (4.4): The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government [emphasis added], and against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.
If this were a better world, the fact that Democrats have already introduced the bill should be regarded as an act of open rebellion against the citizens of RI imo, Democrats removed from office under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment as a consequence.
"14th Amendment, Section 3: No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof [emphases added]. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability."
Finally patriots, what is your threshold of “pain” for peacefully stopping unconstitutionally big state and federal governments?
The inevitable remedy for ongoing, post-17A ratification, corrupt political party treason (imo)...
All MAGA patriots need to wake up their Democratic & RINO federal and state lawmakers by making the following clear to them.
If they don’t publicly support either a resolution, or a Constitutional Convention, to effectively "secede" ALL the states from the unconstitutionally big federal government by amending the Constitution to repeal the 16th (direct taxes) and 17th (popular voting for federal senators) Amendments (16&17A), doing so before the primary elections in 2024, that YOU will primary them.
If the proposed amendment was limited strictly to repealing 16&17A, relatively little or ideally no discussion would be needed before ratification of the amendment imo.
With 16&17A out of the way, my hope is that Trump 47 becomes the FIRST president of a truly constitutionally limited power federal government.
In the meanwhile, I'm not holding my breath for significant MAGA legislation to appear in the first 100 days of new term for what may still prove to be another RINO-controlled House.
Trump will hopefully do another round of primarying RINOs for 2024 elections.
As always, a really good post, A10.
The real reason to grant illegal aliens a right to vote in municipal elections is because “they know” that they wont just vote in the local election but rather check all elections down the ballot.
Flood Rhode Island with “Russians For Trump” and we’ll see how much they like illegals voting.
“And they count all of them.”
As well they should. But according to the law I quoted and gave a site, anyone voting for a federal office that is not a citizen is in line for jail and/or a fine. There are only a few states that allow illegals to vote, so it is their responsibility to make sure the federal ballot is not counted for anything other than the local stuff, state.
“...illegals go to vote on election day and wind up with the same ballot you get.”
It doesn’t have to happen that way. If the person coming in is required to show a voting card like many states do, then it will identify those that can vote national and those that can’t. They just need two piles of ballots at each poll to be handed out properly with the warning to everyone that illegal voting can be a jail sentence. And enforce it. And it’s been proven that is the real problem. It’s not just the illegals, but the polling people that are allowing the illegality to happen, intentional or not. perhaps the illegals need a cell mate.

I know it’s illegal for aliens to vote. What do we do when democrats control the machine and let them?
Think about what Biden and the dems did last year about Georgia’s new voting law. They pitched a fit. Baseball took the All Star game from Atlanta, and Biden called them Jim Eagle.
All because they required a photo id to vote.
Think about why.
It’s all about cheating as the method to steal elections.
“What do we do when democrats control the machine and let them?”
That’s already been displayed with the lack of concern by the state election boards and the GOP at that level. It’s up to the election people and offended parties to call the foul as by the time it reaches the feds, it’s a done deal by law. The feds don’t investigate the votes, just re-tabulate them. And even though they have been ignored, there are actions identified to determine the legitimacy. So who’s the fool? The fool or the fool who follows?
