One last thing, I lock my car door (if I failed to have it locked) when a black or white person comes anywhere near.

I happen to think it’s more likely a white trash drug bum will assault me, than a black will.

But I bet when I lock my door with a black person nearby, you decide it’s a racist micro aggression even though it’s my car and my life.

IOW grow up.

Actually, a two week psych detention is pretty common where I live. Police are not equipped to deal with wild hares, and the alternative of throwing them in jail is harsh and may not get help to those who need it.

In effect, they are put in a county hospital rubber room, checked to make sure they are not having D.T.s or hallucinations, or having overdoses. They make an effort to find out if they are prescribed anti-psychotic drugs. etc.

Not bad for cops that have guns, tasers, and radios as their problem solving tools.

County psych are like a nice hospital ward. When they are coherent they can use the phone. If they have money they can order delivery pizza. They want it to be stress free, and to help those who need and want help.

You really don’t recognize that no unarmed people were killed in the making of this story. None. Zero. Also no shoppers were followed in this story.
The story lacked any element of police misconduct.
But you have an agenda.

I know they put people in psych wards for observation.
Highly unlikely for some lady who was a pain in the ass to a workman, or even to the police.
I believe they have to have reasonable belief the person could be a danger to themselves or others.
Being a pain in the neck does not meet that standard.
If her call was abusive, I could see her receiving a fine.

**First mistake was paying to have the air ducts cleaned.......it does absolutely nothing but actually stir up dormant dust even more.**

Especially flex duct. It is installed in new homes because it goes in fast. Even removing it to clean it is a pain because of the wire coil ribbing creates a lot of valleys. It’s in the home we live in. I plan to replace it with steel soon, hopefully. It’s much easier to clean, and is mouse proof.

During all my years on IL farms, mice were a problem. Farm cats were a necessity. And of about 51 yrs of living in old IL farm houses with forced air ducts, the steel ductwork was never punctured by mice.

That woman is a nutcase. She should be charged for making a false accusation. Good thing the repairman stayed cool and made a video.

This was back in the 90’s in the days of pagers and the lady was a division secretary and somehow she’d get ahold of our pager numbers and would page you a 1/2 dozen times a day. There was a span of time where I and several of my co-workers had swapped out our pagers 6-7 times in a 3 month period until her management team reeled her in because we just stopped responding to calls.

Well that’s too bad for you. Cause these anecdotes you want to write off show up basically weekly if you pay enough attention. There is a problem here, and sticking your fingers in your ears and pretending there isn’t one just makes your fingers smell bad.

I would like to put what you are saying into a different perspective.   My maternal Grandparents were born in 1907.   My brothers and I spent onr summer with them working on their cabin on Turkey Creek.   We along with our cousins were sitting in the dinning area watching the local morning TV show and a country singer was featured.   Our Grandfather had to come from his bedroom to find out who the fantastic singer was.   He pitched a hussy fit when he realized it was Charley Pride.   We all laughed at him for being so ridiculous.   The fact was, to a racist like our Grandfather, the good Black man was one who could never pass as white under any circumstances.   Looking at our so called "homogenized society" now, it is easy to see that those few insane bigots will die off and be buried on the ash heap of history.   Good riddance to bad rubbish.

I like to point out that a lot of people who are killed in “defensive gun use”, could have easily stopped what they were doing, or better yet, walked or run away; but instead decided to continue with their behavior, or worse, ignored the gun and continued to approach the gun handler in a menacing or threatening manner. And this is key.

They were not shot for what they had been doing up to that point, but for *refusing* to discontinue doing what they had been doing, or exacerbating the situation by being even more aggressive in their actions.

This same rule of thumb is used by the police when deciding if someone needs temporary non-criminal institutionalization. Unless someone is incoherent and acting in a deranged manner, they do not immediately arrest them for psychiatric evaluation.

It is *only* when they are “out of it”, and represent, in the opinion of the police, a threat to themselves or others, are they subject to detention. That is, “being an irrational asshole” is not enough. “Being an irrational asshole and threatening to do something about it”, seems to be the criteria.

The same as with the aforementioned shooting, if she felt threatened by the workman she believed menaced her, she should have left the area to go to some safe place, not hung around and berated him.

As with a domestic abuse call, a priority of the police is to separate the brawling people in such a way as to at least for a time, stop the brawl.

If she was irrational, they could find out if she was drunk or on drugs. If not, outside of evidence to the contrary, it is a psychiatric issue, and police, not being psychiatrists or psychologists, are obliged to turn the situation over to experts. And for the time being, to detain one or both of the brawlers to protect them from each other.

Since she had not yet broken the law, which would at least have allowed a 48 hour detention, a two week psychiatric county detention is optimal, and many states have agreed.

But bottom line, it is up to the police to make the judgment call.

Yes, it’s possible that the guy was rude and threatening. But her hysterics on the phone when he’s just standing there make it highly doubtful.

What shooting are you referring to?
