That's just ignorance. Hiking alone is great for your mental health. I do it often. Literally have hiked 100s of miles on the AT, Florida Trail, Benton-McKay, Foothills Trail, Finger Lakes Trail, Superior Trail... Many nights in my hammock. It doesn't have to be unsafe.
