That’s what I thought too after reading that sentence. At that age I imagine playing football is the only thing that matters for a lot of kids.
Maybe he thought there’s no point to living with his “life ruined” by not playing.
Sad.
At 21 y/o he might have played four years and used up his eligibility——ready to finish his masters, move on to Wall Street, run for the Senate?
