I don't think I'm that old but I'm old enough to remember when it was scandalous for a woman to have a baby out of wedlock. And in certain cultures, the man was pretty much forced to marry the girl he impregnated. That's where the term "shotgun wedding" came from.
Men have just as much responsibility as the women for this situation. We are not turning out very good men. A good man would never abandon his children and let the state take care of them.
