Seven more Memphis cops are now under investigation in connection with the death of Tyre Nichols last month - bringing the total number up to 13.
City of Memphis Chief Legal Officer Jennifer Sink told a heated city council meeting that a statement of charges related to those under investigation could come as soon as this week.
The widening of the investigation comes as the national outrage over Nichols' death led five officers who were filmed beating the 29-year-old to be charged with his murder.
In total six officers have been fired in connection with the fateful traffic stop. The names of the latest set of officers to be investigated have not been released.
The statement of charges announced by Ms Sink is administrative, which is separate from any criminal charges which would have to be issued from the D.A.'s office or from federal authorities.
Following the arrest of five black police officers who beat Nichols' to death, a sixth Memphis cop, Preston Hemphill, was fired from the force on February 3 for his role in the tragedy.
Hemphill was one of the officers who initially pulled Nichols over in a traffic stop, and fired his taser as Nichols ran away. Hemphill was not on the scene when Nichols was caught and beaten to death.
Following the tragedy, two Shelby County Sheriff's deputies have also been relieved of their duties pending an ongoing investigation, but have not been charged.
A further three Memphis Fire Department employees were also fired on January 30 for failing to assist Nichols as he lay dying during the January 7 beating. They have also not been criminally charged.
The three individuals released by the fire department comprised of two EMTs, Robert Long and JaMichael Sandridge, and Lieutenant Michelle Whitaker.

This is ultimately the goal. The SJW's (social justice warriors) don't give a rats ass about justice for Tyre. They don't give a flying f*ck if the 5 black cops who killed Tyre eventually get off. As long as there are some whities to receive the proverbial flaming tire around their neck.
Memphis is corrupt racist town led by blacks and a couple of leftist idiot white folks. You are right. They will keep digging until they can get some whites that can be charged and the populace can riot and steal new TV sets.

The corruption in Memphis is way bigger than the PD… when all is said and done, if a true accounting occurs you will find the entire governmental/public service/political structure completely corrupt…

Apparently officer Haley’s ex girlfriend and baby mama was a Fed Ex driver and met Nichols through work.
Do they have the Death Penalty in Tennessee?
