If this “practitioner” had exerted half as much care with this poor woman (and for her poor family who had to endure news of her death twice, and entertain doubt the second time) this probably would never have happened.

Yes, but the big difference is: The nurse practitioner would have then missed her lunch break!

Before we were married, my wife was a licensed nursing home administrator. Her first job she got called into a grand jury (accompanied by a lawyer) because, unbeknown to her, the owner was bilking medicare. Her second job she was getting too attached to the patients (one of whom who died on her watch was Katherine Davis, composer of The Little Drummer Boy). She would never have tolerated that kind of behaviour.
