Well, I’m in real estate so I talk to people all the time, about relocating. Seems to be a very, very difficult thing for most people to think seriously about, never mind do it.
Maybe an inert body tends to remain at rest.
Or the devil you know is preferable to the devil you don’t.
People resist change, and moving is a BIG change.
They usually can’t even imagine changing jobs.
“My family’s here.”
“Can’t afford it.”
I do understand not returning to the ancestral lands, though. My forebears went to some trouble to get away from the czar, the kaiser, the mafia, the king, the revolutionaries, the bloomin’ sheriff of Nottingham perhaps. Nobody liked them!

most of those problems dint exist for them in the 1800s

and exploration is what drives man, well, europeans anyway

no, they prolly thought they had a better shot here in civilization than to try and recreate it there

but in essence giving up more than their new found freedom, but the freedom to strive in the process
