Unfortunately, he’s not eligible for the death penalty, the Supreme Court a few years ago ruled that sentencing minors to the death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment.

I think he can get life without parole, the only reason to plead guilty is there was no way he was going to be acquitted and he’s probably hoping to get some chance at parole sometime in the future.

What’s worse is his mother was also arrested after the murder for trying to destroy evidence, when get home after stabbing the you girl, he was covered in blood and his mother washed his clothes so coverup the evidence.

It appears that he enjoyed the killing. A frenzy of stabbing. She had many defensive wounds to her hands. He bragged about the murder in jail.
It’s very simple. Without a death penalty in play, he needs to be locked away for the next sixty years, at least.
Of course, the odds of him surviving to old age are probably zero.
