Vaughan's album "Couldn't Stand the Weather" was released on May 15, 1984, and includes his cover of Jimi Hendrix's song, "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)", which provoked inevitable comparisons to Jimi Hendrix.

Better than a cuppa coffee for an eye-opener.

Super guy. Kind of shy.

I read a biography on SRV.

It was pretty boring, really. All the guy did was play guitar, every waking moment of the day. If he was sitting in his living room, he was playing a guitar. Sitting out by the pool, playing guitar.

While it wasn't mentioned, he probably took his guitar with him when he went to take a sh*t.

As a guitar player myself, I realized that's what it takes to be able to play guitar as good as SRV played.

I used to tear it up when I was a kid. I cannot do it any more. My hands are about curled up. Got RA real bad. Not bragging, I just did it. Used to play anywhere I could, even on the throne. According to my first wife, I played in my sleep.

Never got famous, just got to hang out with some cool kids. Played guitar, keys, bass, and percussion.

Biggest thrill was Rodney Crowell buying me a drink at the Peppermill Lounge in Handley (East side of Fort Worth). I ran with Ed Shaver and Parnell’s kid at the time. Wild stuff.

He did not touch a guitar at dinner, and I am sure there was one around. Nice, quiet dinner. I skied Alpine Valley in February, and then he died coming from there in a helicopter crash in August. Damn shame.

Think that’s Billy Gibbons. Stevie used a green tortshell/Dunlop pick. Very heavy thick plastic. Also used very heavy/thick strings. GHS 13s I believe. I used 11s.

He didn’t screw around.
