Vaughan's album "Couldn't Stand the Weather" was released on May 15, 1984, and includes his cover of Jimi Hendrix's song, "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)", which provoked inevitable comparisons to Jimi Hendrix.
A classic.
One of the greatest to ever pick up a guitar, surely.
Eric Johnson is another great Texas guitarist who can do Hendrix covers justice.
His Little Wing is awesome.
For anybody worried about getting a scratch or smudge on their guitar, STV says fahgetaboutit.
Better than the original.
Uh, no.
The best ever!
And I don’t care what anyone says down thread.
“Better than the original”
Have you lost your mind?
Just kidding, my wife and I have the same disagreement Hendrix v Stevie Ray regularly. May be generational, if you think two years is a generation! Or she may be taking “buy local” to a wierd extreme.
Great guy. I was lucky to have Christmas Eve Dinner with him and his wife, along with the bluesman of New Zealand, Midge Marsten. His last one on earth.
I was 15 at Will Rodgers Auditorium on my 15th bday in 1985. Stevie blew the roof off.Great show, 4th row.Him and Jimmy jammed a double neck guitar. Fab Thunderbirds opened. Later they had a jam with Leslie Stahl and Charlie (life without you) Wurzt. Great stuff.
Charlie Wurtz. Charlie’s Guitar Shop.Miss that place.
Jimi was the giant, whose shoulders SRV stood on.
Never met him in person, but I talked to him on Rockline once. Sweet dude. He was nice to me anyway.
Super guy. Kind of shy.
I had heard that, but put a guitar in his hands, watch out! Very sweet man.
Let me buy you a beer!
Now let’s argue “vinyl vs CD” !
Wait, what?
SRV was not the guitarist Hendrix was.
Tell your wife that I play guitar and actually have some idea of what I am talking about.
Hendrix was and is incomparable.
