Kyrie Irving requests Nets trade as tenure somehow gets more dramatic
NY Post ^ | February 3, 2023 2:09pm | Brian Lewis

Kyrie Irving has stirred up more drama in Brooklyn, but this time could be the last time. The star has told the Nets he wants out, preferably by Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.

The news was first reported by The Athletic, and confirmed by the Post through a source close to the situation.

The source did not say what Irving’s breaking point was or why the West Orange, NJ native wants a trade from his hometown team. Despite last summer’s testy negotiations, Brooklyn had been in contract talks with Irving recently and offered an extension. The Athletic reported that the offer with “guarantee stipulations” was “not well-received.”

Irving – who has been at odds with the Nets at times over the past two years, on both contractual and other issues – told the team if he isn’t moved ahead of the Feb. 9 deadline, he’ll depart in free agency. And unlike last summer, when Irving’s market was suppressed, this summer he’ll have options.

Averaging 27.1 points, 5.3 assists and 5.1 rebounds, Irving was voted in as a starter in the Feb. 19 NBA All-Star Game, alongside fellow Brooklyn star Kevin Durant. There’s a legitimate chance Irving could be in a different uniform by then, having forced his way out of an unsettled Nets team.

Griner didn’t take the vax either? And chose not to play instead of being forced to take the jab?

He’s not certain if the Earth is flat or spherical.

Kyrie stood strong on the vax. Give him respect for that.

The other poster was mentioning going east, jokingly, to sign a contract.
I was just riffing on that.

I think Griner went to Russia for more money.
Not vax related.

East, west don’t matter because the world’s flat. Dunno If it has edges or creases.

And he’s looking more and more right by the day in terms of him not taking the vaccine. And the whole mandate was a joke. A visiting player who wasn’t vaccinated could play but not Kyrie.

He just wears out his welcome wherever he goes, for the third time since 2017

He hasn’t worn out his welcome if they want to resign him.

Too much drama for me. Go to the Lakers. That’s where the entertainment is.

Agreed. I’m partial to the Celtics and so not especially fond of Kyrie, but he is one of the few who publicly held his ground on the jabs—and likely influenced a few of his colleagues to their benefit.
