You are definitely correct on that last sentiment. Never fails, and I managed not to engage so far. The sexist anti-woman contingent is vocal.

I call them as I see them. My experience with real men is largely, just fine.

This doesn't allow for another situation that I think has a significant effect -- widows. Women have longer life expectancies than men. They also tend to marry older men who are already in the job market - anywhere from 2-7 years older.

And if the husband predeceases the wife, his life insurance will also appear to increase her income/net worth.
