I can’t open the link. Is Percy Jones of Brand X on the list?
Tom Fowler from The Mothers of Invention? Jeff Berlin?
Chris Squire? Ralphe Armstrong? Andy West?

Sorry to be a pest.

Something seems off when the 30 greatest bassist of all-time are listed and Donald “Duck” Dunn isn’t on the list.

I must rank Tal Wilkenfeld among the all time greats and Jack Cassiday, Jack Bruce and Jerome Arnold (R&R Hall of Fame, 2016 including stints with Howlin’ Wolf and Paul Butterfield). Privileged to have seen all but Tal in person.

Tal’s solos with Jeff Beck (RIP) on the Crossroads Festival 2007 were show stoppers and breathtaking.
Not enough bass but here’s one: (crowd was entralled and wanted to keep listening but had to start cheering midway through).

Worth finding the dvd or better quality streaming version.

I’m good with Geddy. But overall I agree the list is a bit “modern”.

I binged on Primus / Les Claypool for a long weekend about a month ago, so that was nice.

Here’s Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver, just because it’s a fun song/vid.

Glad to see The Ox ranked so high. The bass on The Real Me is something I’ve thought at the top of any bass lines, anywhere, any time, for a long time.

But what do I know? The only thing I play is the stereo.

Agree. Impossible to leave Dunn off a great list. So many classics and even late in his career was with Eric Clapton on his 80s hits and videos.

Baasists are the forgotten ones when it comes to great tunes.

As a lifelong bassist I can attest to that.

The problem with lists such as who's the greatest this or that is they're always so subjective. Everyone's opinion is different, especially when it comes to music.

I’d have put James Jamerson a few slots higher.

And what about Barry Oakley from the Allman Brothers, kind of a forgotten guy because he died so young.

This one blew my mind the first time I heard it.

Chris Squire isolated on Roundabout.

I didn’t look at the list. I know who is on it. As a bassist I could never rank bass players that way, same with guitarists, etc. There is obviously an upper echelon but their styles, accomplishments and additions to music are too different for me to be ranking them in any order.

It is enough to enjoy them all and endeavor to play my own style when I perform as best I can.
