Years ago (1994??) when they first introduced wolves to Idaho (four of them), a rancher killed one and hung it on a fence with the sign “Ranchers 1, Wolves 0”.

I think they introduced a total of 35 wolves or something over the years. The population is now over 1,500.

My inlaws moved from Thousand Oaks to Athol, ID. Upon unloading furniture at new house, FIL heard a large handgun blast. A few minutes later, he gets to meet his neighbor. Holstered is a .44 Colt Anaconda. FIL asked what was up and neighbor said, "Shot a wolf in my back yard, ran onto your property and need to get his tracking collar off.

Want to go find him? FIL saw what he described as a doubled german shepard. Native ID neighbor said to kill them on site and get their collar. Now they have chips in them. You can get in serious trouble killing wolves w/o cause, so they put in chicken coops.
