Skiers and boarders now have "avalanche airbags". They are worn like a backpack and come equipped with a rubber expanding air bladder that is powered by a small can of very high-pressure air. There is a ripcord on the harness straps that trigger bag inflation.

If you get into an avalanche, you pop your airbag and ride along on the surface of the avalanche debris and walk (or ski) away.

Skiers can now ski or board into avalanche terrain that would have been a death event just a few years ago! They do not protect against rocks, cliffs or drop-offs as it appears happened in this incident.

Is the name of the company that manufactures them "Acme?"
