John Candy also abused cocaine, that in addition to him being obese seems the likely cause of his death. But obesity alone at that age is unlikely to cause a heart attack, though I suppose it might occur rarely. Even those with a high genetic risk for heart attacks don’t usually kick off until they are at least in their 40’s.

I saw his videos the other day (before his death). He was huge. So it’s not surprising that he died of a heart attack.Also, the article says [I know we're not supposed to read them] that heart disease runs in his family.
