.gov is always corrupt. Black, white, it doesn’t matter. Too bad the left and right couldn’t unite on reforming the actions of fbi/cia/nsa/local police etc. Rip usa.
We do need a check on qualified immunity. Scotus has conferred this privilege on LEOs, prosecutors and judges. Whatever the pros and cons of this decision, qualified immunity gives these controlling authorities the sense that they can get away with abuses without facing punishment . As a result, these people don’t always carefully consider the consequences of their action as much as other non government workers that can and will face civil litigation for negligence.
In this case, the officers probably figured they could cover things up. The problem for them was that they went too far that their qualified immunity couldn’t protect them.
Since it is likely that Scotus won’t reverse the qualified immunity privilege, another mechanism needs to be created that allows for increased transparency of legal and police procedures. If there are abuses, sanctions such as loss of job for offenders and victim restitution need to be instituted.
When controlling authorities know that the public is watching and abuses will be punished, they will pay more attention to their actions.
People will act differently when they know they are being watched.
