I haven't seen him in decades outside of motion pictures, so you might well be right. Some comedy doesn't age well. I put Steve Martin in that category, also Milton Berle. On the other hand I can watch George Burns (ESPECIALLY with Gracie) and Jack Benny, and the jokes still work almost a century later.

Williams was always manic, and he could improvise.
