So smack him and disorient him so that he has absolutely no clue what is happening and then beat the hell out of him for not obeying commands while disoriented?

It’s not natural to just lay back and let a gang of apes beat the stuffing out of you. When survival mode goes live you’re capable of whatever it takes to survive, get away, which is what we saw the young man do.
