Got lost on the way to DU?

“Neocons” and socialists are the same thing.

Not at all. A neocon is someone who agrees politically with conservative ideas including free market capitalism. Moderate conservatives tend to clash with neocons on issues of foreign policy.

Faith in the free market is one important belief of neocons, but even more important is their support of interventionism. In other words, neocons support actively promoting democracy around the world, even if that means using military force. Neocon is short for neoconservative, which adds the neo-, or "new," prefix to conservative. The original neocons abandoned their formerly leftist ideals in the late 1960s and early 1970s. https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/neocon

This is so wrong. There are a lot of old democrats of the aggressive foreign policy kind who saw much more opportunity to push their wares with the right than the new left and so they joined with the so-called conservatives. But neo-cons have always been about spreading liberal democracy at gun point, which it turns out just doesn't work to well and explains the faiures of the Bush administration to a "T."

Those pusing the Ukraine war are in the same camp and fall for the same trap. They converted their anti-communism into anti- Russianism. Their rallying cry remains Condi's policy "we don't recognize spheres of influence," which is an absurd denial of what is almost a law of physics. Russia has far more influence on its borders than the US does 5,000 miles away. So when we deny it and threaten Russia for spheres of influence we are attacking Russia directly. Imagine if China were to state that they don't recognize spheres of influence and moved forces onto Carribean islands and a couple of central and South American countries on the Gulf of Mexico, which we consider our sphere of influence and have since the Monroe doctrine.
