That term “whataboutism” was used in the article. I was pointing out that the term is used when you score a direct hit they cannot defend against.
Examples abound. One I see often is when people say you cannot use force to establish a new country, from within another, such as Donbass. If you ask them about Kosovo, or breaking off northern Syria and giving it to the Kurds, the screech that is the dreaded “whataboutism”. The neocons hate a mirror.
When someone responds to a point you make with an accusation of “whataboutism”, you can be sure you just won. But DC loves to throw that term around.
