You may have noticed that the Academy Award nominations were announced this week.
It is also notable that few cared.
That's really too bad because one of America's great cultural contributions to the world is our film industry.
Well, it used to be, anyway.
Gone are the days of the glamorous movie star and incredible films. Today we have superheroes blowing stuff up and dinosaurs rampaging through San Diego - frightening everybody except the homeless who are not moving from the Gaslight District, no matter what.
The televised Oscar show will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, who'd better watch himself, or an audience member might pull a Will Smith.
Kimmel is your essential wise guy, but he understands the woke world in which he lives. As Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young once sang: "Step out of line, and they'll come to take you away."
Anyway, few care about politically correct Hollywood these days. Don't believe me? Okay, what was the best picture last year?
It was CODA. Didn't see it. But I'm sure it was woke.
See you tonight for the No Spin News.
Blasphemy!
Even that was phony:
“Marie Louise Cruz (November 14, 1946 – October 2, 2022), better known as Sacheen Littlefeather, was an American actress, model, and activist on behalf of Native American civil rights.”
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacheen_Littlefeather
That would have been The Return of the King. I have always thought that the number of categories, including Best Picture, that LOTRs won that night was actually reflecting the total number of movies. Return of the King represented the entire trilogy.
T3 is not bad if you are a Terminator fan. I thought Terminator “Genisys” was decent. Terminator “Dark Fate” was quite good, IMHO.
I watched them all, The Terminator and T2 were the best. The TV series was underrated IMO. I loved it and didn’t want it to end. It was like the Lethal Weapon TV series, outstanding and fun.
I enjoyed the Terminator and Lethal Weapon TV shows as well. Too many good TV shows get canceled for crap. All I watch is Chicago P.D. and I watch the Rookie with the wife. I watch old Chicago P.D. reruns on ION TV and they seem better than the new ones.
A serious subject such as law enforcement, add in comedy and a family feel. How can you lose? It is like CBS in the 60’s era. They hated that Beverly Hillbillies was #1. I am not sure who did Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, and Gilligans Island. I am thinking that ALL were from CBS. They were embarrassed that people watched and enjoyed this sort of humor. Even Hee Haw was popular, so they moved that around until it ended up off of the major networks.
Point is, the major networks have always hated middle America. Those who are happy with America, and want to be entertained and laugh.
Yeah, I get it. I see your objections to the vulgarities.
I thought The King’s Speech was great!
“See it?!
I’ve never even heard of it!”
_____
Me neither. I’ve often stumbled upon articles that listed movies that received these awards and found that I do not recognize hardly any of the movies listed.
Years ago, I would recognize many of the movies that received accolades. Films such as the original Star Wars (you have to admit the special effects were amazing for that time) or the “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (great action, fun, good plot), or “Schindler’s List” (very moving and about a time in world history that is being forgotten). However, now all movies that are selected for honors are required to be “woke” even if the plot and acting are horrible.
Movies no longer are a work of art but instead are based solely on activism and pushing a narrative.
Here is my prediction:
Hollywood is so shocked at the lack of interest in ...well, Hollywood...that they will give in and find TOP GUN, MAVERICK THE BEST PICTURE OF THE YEAR.
If they do not do that...then, they are dumber than I.
The use of entertainment to warp humanity has been happening for as long as it has existed. The difference it that since television began the number of people who could be influenced through entertainment has steadily increased.
Bonanza and Ponderosa were not at all accurate to the time period depicted; they were not intended to be. Instead they displayed social issues like racism by showing viewers what we should aspire to be. Such shows were decried as unrealistic and were replaced with “gritty” (pretend) realism that highlighted human failures and frailty. Shows like Hill Street Blues helped to usher in entertainment that provided plausible reasons to abandon morality, virtue and truth.
Eddie Haskel was a jerk and Wally knew it. But he was a loyal friend regardless, and encouraged him to be better. Today instead of showing what should be, comedy television is an endless stream of “put-downs” and verbal abuse; but it is ok because they are “friends” (who pass each other around like a box of cracker jacks).
Today we have reached a point where the MSM and “entertainment” industries have so desensitized us to evil that our own president and his son can be incredibly demonstrably corrupt and millions of Americans just think “oh well ...” or worse, they are so deluded by being told what and how to think that they don’t believe it.
This is why he is called the father of lies.
Pray for revival. We are in dire need of repentance. Without God we are finished as a nation. It is only a matter of time.
