The nuclear reactor industry is due for a renaissance. Not just modular reactors, but molten salt as a combined coolant and fuel and the use of thorium as a fuel hold great promise. The environmental movement seems to be realizing that solar and wind power will never be enough for reduced carbon electric power, and that, even at their best, they will also need substantial base load generating capacity. That means fossil fuels -- or nuclear power -- the most potent "green energy" that modern science and engineering have to offer.

IN the 90’s I recall reading about a fuel design that suspended tiny flakes in a high density carbon pellet.
