1 against 7-8 merits a force escalation beyond mere fists (mace, taser, baton, or any other object, and could turn to deadly force on a dime) and inserting yourself into such a scenario solo - without very special training - is simply dumb.
I’m not calling what he did as wrong, just poorly thought out (i.e., dumb).
You can bet all their mommas are at the court appearances screaming and yelling at the judges for punishing their precious teens.
I hear you but it doesn’t sound like he tried to escalate it and go at these thugs 1 gainst 8. It was a packed train. There were 30 other people on the car. He saw the older man that was being harassed and then being set on fire and his hair went up in flames like a Christmas tree! He just said something - cut it out. Everyone else just stayed quiet. So typical of New York. But he did the right thing. Then all of a sudden the sharks surrounded him. They tried to provoke him into punching them but he stayed calm. They took one punch at him. Everyone moves to antoher car. So he got off and moved to the other car. They go another stop and he figures it is over. Then the punks open the door and before he knows it he is being jumped and on the ground. So eventhough he got up and went to another car, they continue to stalk HIM and beat him. Nobody intervening. Could he have done things differently, yeah. Could he have just sat there and said nothing, easier said then done. Just calling him dumb is not understanding what we are up against. Too bad no other men tried to help him.
My comment was spot-on accurate: He was dumb. Quoting myself, I never said it was wrong, just dumb and poorly executed.
For example, a smart guy would have recruited at least 5 other ‘men’ to form a phalanx of a visual buffer to dissuade them from what actually occurred, or at least he’d have had a Churchill umbrella and some idea of how to use it as a weapon.
He did neither and could have died.
‘Not smart’.
