Consider the federal “Do not Call” registry is a complete failure. Yet the program costs the taxpayers $200 million per year apparently employing bureaucrats who do nothing.

Yet the same federal government that cannot find and shut down these call centers scamming millions of citizens is daily using sophisticated high technology tools to spy at will on US citizens in violation of the Constitution.

The truth is, if the federal government wanted to shut down the scammers it could within a matter of a few days. The key question is, how much money generated by the call centers makes it back to Congress and “the big guy”.

The way the DSC names things the opposite to which they really are, the DoNotCall registry is probably in reality a “Call THIS number” registry.

Bingo. If a group of thieves were snatching purses on the street the cops would quickly set up a task force to stop it (at least that’s the way it used to work).

Yet these scammers steal millions and ruin lives, and the Feds take no action.

“Consider the federal “Do not Call” registry is a complete failure.”

It is a failure because it is on a number by number basis. If there is a phone bank with 100 numbers, if you request being put on a do not call list from that number, it should apply to the entire phone bank.

I am presently blocking all phone calls that come to me from Texas numbers because I once gave a donation to a PBA group. Apparently they sold my number and now I get on average two to three calls a day. I just let the phone ring and then add them to my blocked numbers list, which is now over 100.

It seems to increase the # of calls, maybe by providing scammers with a list!

I registered with the Federal “Do Not Call” registry very early in its inception. Not only did it not stop the volume of spam calls, their number increased exponentially. I had to wonder if some Federal employees were not on the take to actually give your name (and thousands of others’ names) and number to the spam call centers for a nice fat bribe.
