The story, as told: "Frango Mints candy was originally a product of the Frederick and Nelson Co. department stores in Seattle, Washington. The chocolates were first known as Franco Mints—for FRederick And Nelson COmpany. During the 1920s, when Marshall Field bought those Seattle stores, they acquired Franco Mints as well. And the name stayed that way until 1939 when Spain’s General Francisco Franco became a controversial figure. Field’s then changed the name to Frango Mints."

Not anymore - when Field’s was sold to Macy’s the brand was sold to another candy company - not anything special anymore.
Oh they’re very good
Yeah, you always get some Frango mints around Christmas if you are around Chicago.
I still prefer Andes mints though. They’re thinner so they melt in your mouth better than Frangos.
Frederick & Nelson was an awesome everything store.
Nothing today comes close.
When Marshall Fields had them, they were very good. When Macys took over they just weren’t as good for some reason. I miss Fields.
Oh yeah, one funny thing about them changing the name because of General Franco... Chicago still has the Balbo monument up next to Soldier’s Field that was donated to the city by Mussolini!

"Oh sir... it's only wafer thin."

They’re absolutely delish!
My mother and her mother were very fond of items from Marshall Field including Frango Mints.
Naturally I am also a fan. :-)
On very rare occasions my mom or grandma would get a Frango Mint Pie! Now I’m ruined for life.
